阿姆斯特丹自由大学

自由大學成立於1880年10月20日，校名中的「自由」（vrije）意謂不受國家或教會的干涉，只以神的話語為準繩。其校徽為獅鷲。該校原處阿姆斯特丹市中心，由於學生人數增加而於1973年遷至現址。自由大學現有12間學院，約有2,200名教員，18,000名學生就讀（2007年）。學士學位課程一般以荷語授課，亦有個別課程以英語授課，碩士課程則以英語授課為主。

自由大學位於阿姆斯特丹南部的金融區（Zuid），周边是荷兰最大的一些公司的总部如飞利浦，ABN-AMRO、ING等。学校擁有歐洲較少見的大學城，以運用先進技術的校園和妥善的服務著稱。

自由大學重視培養的質量，其神學系（QS32）和體育系（QS23）長期位於荷蘭第一。醫學，法學，心理，傳播等科系亦是其傳統强項。
